As examinations begin at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), students are searching for every edge to boost their performance. While late-night reading and group discussions are common, many overlook the natural power of fruits, readily available, affordable, and packed with nutrients that can sharpen the brain.

Banana – The Energy Booster—
Known as the student’s best friend, bananas are rich in natural sugars and potassium. They provide quick energy to keep you alert during long hours of study and can also calm nerves before stepping into the exam hall.

Orange – Vitamin C for Alertness
Oranges are filled with Vitamin C, which helps reduce stress and keeps the immune system strong. A glass of fresh orange juice in the morning can refresh your mind and body before exams.

Apple – The Memory Fruit
The saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” also applies to exams. Apples contain antioxidants that improve brain function and memory—perfect for last-minute revisions.

Watermelon – The Hydration Hero
With exam tension, many students forget to drink enough water. Watermelon keeps the body hydrated and provides natural sugar for energy, preventing fatigue during long papers.

Strawberries: Protecting Your Brain from Decline
Strawberries are high in vitamin C and antioxidants, which can help protect against age-related cognitive decline. But it’s not just older adults who can benefit from strawberries – these delicious fruits can also help students stay focused and alert during long study sessions. By incorporating strawberries into your diet, you may find that you’re able to stay motivated and focused, even when the going gets tough.

Pomegranates: The Brain-Boosting Fruit
Pomegranates are rich in antioxidants and polyphenols, which may help improve memory and cognitive function. These fruits have been shown to have a positive impact on brain health, and may even help to reduce stress and anxiety. By adding pomegranates to your diet, you may find that you’re able to approach exams with a clearer mind and a more positive attitude.
Exams may test your memory, but fueling  your brain with the right fruits  can give you an extra push. Instead of depending only on coffee or junk snacks, grab a banana, apple, or watermelon. These miracle fruits might just be the secret to walking out of the hall with confidence and success.
