The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism has suggested to the students the idea of hosting a mock wedding during the upcoming students’ week celebration at the school.
The students week is an annual lecture free week that gives room for students to showcase their talent and also fulfill other extracurricular activities of the institution.
According to the SRC, the fake wedding will display how a traditional wedding looks like in a Nigerian setting.
It also stated that it will portray the diversity and unity in the Nigerian culture, hence, a Yoruba bride will be getting married to an Igbo groom.
Similarly, the Vice President of the SRC and head of the cultural day team, Popoola Zuliat noted that the plans will ensure students dress elegantly in different attires to display their culture, thereby achieving unity.
The organizers have commenced the sale of ankara fabric for the wedding – and Zuliat explained that idea of the ankara is to show togetherness like we always have in Nigerian ‘owambe’ parties.
She also assured the students that it will be a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone.
