The spirit of tradition, unity, and cultural pride lit up the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) campus, as students and staff gather for OJUDE NIJ, a vibrant cultural celebration held July 8.

Ojude NIJ event, day 2 of the students’ week, showcases the rich heritage of Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups while spotlighting the creativity and unity of NIJ students across all levels.

Kicking off with energetic cultural music, the ceremony opens with a heartfelt prayer by Omowunmi Adetuberu, setting the tone for a festive yet reflective occasion as the host was introduced to the stage.

This is followed by the symbolic Family Dance Entrance, where each class made a grand cultural display, draped in colorful traditional attire that reflected their respective group identities.The families are:

  • Olowoporoku Family (ND 1
  • Bashorun Family (ND 2)
  • Moremi Family (HND 1)
  • Lisabi Family (HND 2)

In her welcome address, the head of the team; Ojude NIJ event, Oreoluwa Olatiboye expresses gratitude to everyone present, especially the academic staff and members of the Student Representative Council (SRC) who were specially recognized for their support and involvement in campus life. The purpose of the event was made clear to promote cultural understanding and strengthen the bonds among students through traditional celebration, despite the diversity.

A captivating Royal Parade further followed followed, by the igbo showcasing regal elegance and traditional authority, as well as the Hausa students were warmly recognized for their contributions and presence at NIJ, emphasizing the inclusiveness of the event.

The programme was punctuated by high-energy games, an emotive drama performance by 4 Star Media, the thunderous rhythm of the Bata Dance, that drew loud cheers from the crowd.

Also,the live Band then took the stage, delivering a medley of songs and tunes that got both the old and young on their feet.

However, lecturers and staff weren’t left behind. They joined the students on the dance floor, creating a powerful scene of camaraderie. This was followed by organizing committee members also taking the floor, celebrating their efforts and unity.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, from the committee, appreciating everyone who contributed to the success of the celebration.

As the evening wore on, the dance floor remained alive with music and movement, bringing the curtain down on what was truly an unforgettable edition of Ojude NIJ.
