Higher National Diploma (HND 1) on Thursday edged out National Diploma (ND 1) with a 4-2 victory in the Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ) student league and secured their spot in the Provost Cup semi-finals.
Despite an early scare, HND 1 dominated the second half, scoring three goals in 10 minutes to turn the game around.
Samson opened the scoring with a brilliant strike set up by Samuel. However, ND 1’s Payday equalled his 11th goal of the tournament. ND 1 took the lead late in the first half through Abbey’s Olympic goal from a corner kick.
HND 1 dominated the second half, creating multiple chances. The equaliser came when an ND 1 defender deflected the HND 1 skipper’s corner kick into their own goal. HND 1 then went on to score two more goals, to win 4-2.
The league phase concludes with ND 2 facing HND 2 on Wednesday, 11th June 2025.
