The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has paid glowing tribute to veteran journalist and Publisher of Vanguard Media Group, Prince Sam Amuka-Pemu, as he marks his 90th birthday.
In a press statement signed by its General Secretary, Dr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren, the Guild described the milestone as a celebration of a life dedicated to truth, journalistic integrity, and national service.
Prince Amuka Pemu, fondly known as “Uncle Sam,” was praised for his enduring legacy and profound impact on Nigeria’s media landscape.
“As the Founder of Vanguard Newspapers, Uncle Sam has played a pivotal role in shaping modern journalism in Nigeria,” the Guild stated.
“His commitment to excellence and robust journalism has inspired generations of reporters and media professionals.”

The editors highlighted the transformation of Vanguard under his leadership into a respected platform known for truth, reliability, and high ethical standards.
“Your unwavering commitment to journalistic ethics has earned the admiration of your peers, the government, and readers across the country,” the statement added.
Beyond his media contributions, the Guild noted Prince Amuka-Pemu’s commitment to social causes, particularly his support for education, civic engagement, and social justice in Sapele and the wider Niger Delta region.
“As we celebrate your 90th birthday, we honour not only your achievements but also your life. Your legacy will continue to inspire us and the generations to come,” the Guild said.
