House of Representatives member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Honourable James Faleke, on Tuesday empowered more than 300 residents with various tools and equipment to support self-reliance and entrepreneurship.
The empowerment programme, tagged a “Mini Mega Empowerment,” was held at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) in Ogba, Lagos with beneficiaries getting various items including tricycles (Keke NAPEP), dispatch bikes, deep freezers, industrial sewing machines, grinding machines, clippers, generators, popcorn machines and juice extractors.
A comprehensive skill acquisition programme was also facilitated for 2,100 constituents, focusing on fish farming and its value chain, conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research.
The event, which is part of Faleke’s broader initiative to combat unemployment and foster grassroots development, witnessed a large turnout of community members, political stakeholders, and representatives from various wards within the Ikeja Federal Constituency.
Speaking at the occasion, representatives of the lawmaker emphasised Falake’s commitment to economic empowerment and youth development. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the gesture, hailing it as timely and impactful.
“This is not just a gift; it is a chance to change lives,” said one recipient. “With this equipment, I can start a business and support my family.”

Beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity.
Modupe Adetunji, a single mother from Oke Ira said the programme is an eye-opener and promised to make judicious use of the start-up grant.
Titilope Okuwafunmiwo from Ikeja highlighted the programme’s relevance, noting that fish is a staple in many diets, making the training timely and beneficial.
