The Digital Journalism Lecturer, Mr Lekan Otufodunrin, who announced the Marathon on Monday, said it’s meant to enable the students to practice what they are learning in the course.

According to him, the students need to get used to producing content for digital platforms before graduating to have the required credentials and skills employers want.

The Provost, Mr Gbenga Adefaye, addressing participants at a BBC training in the school

“Our goal is to produce industry-ready graduates and those who can set up their organisation. This can only be possible if they acquire the required practical skills through an initiative like the marathon.

“There are many stories all over the campus and outside which can be reported on the website. All you need to do is look out for them as you go around,” he said while briefing students.

The content are to be in various formats, including pictures, audio, video and others, covering the various sections of the website.

According to Otufodunrin, the marathon is also open to other students of the institution to contribute content and begin to learn how to be a digitally savvy journalist.

“I’m looking forward to the success of the marathon, which will help the students to enhance the capacity of the students and I do not doubt that they have what it takes to meet the daily target and schedule,” the Executive Director of Media Career Development Network said.
