The rehabilitation of the Ogba-Ijaiye Road located along Ogba, Agege, and Berger Road marks a significant milestone in the development of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ),  and the surrounding area.

Our team visited the area: it was obvious that the students and staff of NIJ, the residents and road users have heaved a sigh of relief as rehabilitation of the road marked the end of a long period of struggling with a poorly maintained road.

The road’s reconstruction, completed earlier by the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC), in January 2025, has indeed brought relief to motorists and pedestrians who had endured years of hardship due to its deteriorated condition.

The newly reconstructed road features a smooth asphalt surface and well-concreted drainage systems, replacing the dilapidated ones.

Residents and business owners in the area have expressed their appreciation for completing the road construction before the onset of the rainy season.

The rehabilitation of Ogba-Ijaiye Road is expected to have a positive impact on not NIJ but local businesses and the economy. With a smoother and safer road, businesses in the area can thrive again, and residents can enjoy improved living conditions. NIJ students and staff can also benefit from the increased economic activity and opportunities in the area.

The upgrade of this road will significantly enhance accessibility and safety for NIJ students and staff, who can now commute to and from campus with ease. The improved drainage system will also prevent frequent flooding, which had plagued the gate and fence of the institute in the past.

While commending the Lagos State government for the successful completion of the project. It has been observed that the residents and road users are filling up the drainage and gutters of the road. This will cause flooding that will negatively impact the life span of the road.

“The government should prioritise the maintenance of the newly reconstructed road and extend similar efforts to other neglected roads in the state, particularly before the rainy season,” a resident implored.

Recall, in 2023 and 2024 Motorists plying Ogba, Ikeja, Ojodu Berger and Ojota lamented the bad state of the road.
