Established to train and equip journalists and media professionals, NIJ has produced thousands of graduates who have excelled in print, broadcast, and digital media. The institute has maintained a strong reputation for quality education, offering Diploma, Higher National Diploma (HND), and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programs, as well as specialized training in public relations and advertising.

Expansion of Media Training Facilities

As part of its efforts to modernize journalism education, NIJ has invested in state-of-the-art broadcast and multimedia facilities. The institute launched Pen Radio Live, an online radio station, in 2021 to provide students with hands-on experience in radio broadcasting. Additionally, the school has secured an FM frequency allocation and is working towards establishing a terrestrial radio station to further enhance practical training.

Stronger Industry Collaborations

NIJ has deepened its partnerships with top media houses, including The Punch, The Guardian, Channels TV, TVC, and The Nation, offering students opportunities for internships and professional training. These collaborations have bridged the gap between theoretical learning and real-world media practice, ensuring graduates are industry-ready.

Notable Alumni and Industry Impact

The institute has also produced renowned journalists, media executives, and communication specialists who have made significant contributions to Nigeria’s media landscape. NIJ alumni hold key positions in newsrooms, PR firms, advertising agencies, and government communication departments, reflecting the institute’s impact on the industry.

Commitment to Press Freedom and Media Development

Beyond academic training, NIJ has played a vital role in promoting press freedom and ethical journalism in Nigeria. The institute frequently organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences, engaging media professionals and policymakers in discussions about the evolution of journalism and the role of the media in democracy.

Looking Forward

With plans for further infrastructural development, digital media expansion, and international collaborations, NIJ remains committed to upholding excellence in journalism education. As the media landscape continues to evolve, the institute is positioning itself to meet the changing demands of the industry and equip future journalists with the skills to thrive in an increasingly digitalized world.

NIJ’s continued commitment to excellence and innovation reinforces its status as a premier training ground for journalists, broadcasters, and communication experts in Nigeria and beyond.
