Nigeria’s leading monotechnic in media training, the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), held its matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
The academic ceremony took place at the Kensington Adebutu Media Resource Centre within the school premises in Ogba, Lagos. A total of 304 students participated in the oath-taking ceremony into various programmes.
This included 127 students under the National Diploma (ND) programme, 82 under the Higher National Diploma (HND), and 95 for the Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) programme.
While congratulating the new students in his speech, the Provost, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, proudly highlighted the institution’s achievements, emphasising its consistent record of uninterrupted academic sessions.
In his words, “It’s a thing of pride to us to give you a guarantee of a seamless story, with certainty, the year of graduation. There are no strikes. There is no disruption of scheduled programmes. We have our staff members and students to thank for that.”

To achieve this, the Provost assured that the new students could look forward to field trips to media houses, advertising agencies and Public Relations firms, students industrial training (IT) for the National Diploma graduands, sports, intercollege competitions, industrial workshops and many more.
Representatives of the various classes also expressed their appreciation to the school management on the occasion. In his speech, Demola Atunramu, class representative of the HND 1 class encouraged the fresh students to “embrace the academic journey with commitment and determination.”
