Students of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) have expressed growing dissatisfaction with the state of the institution’s library, calling for an urgent overhaul.
The students, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, painted a grim picture of a facility in dire need of attention.
According to the students, the library’s infrastructure is outdated, with worn-out furniture and an uninviting atmosphere.
“The chairs are so bad,” one student lamented. “It’s difficult to concentrate when you’re uncomfortable.”
Another student echoed the frustration, describing the library as “boring” and lacking in stimulating materials. “There is no balance in the library, just textbooks,” the student averred.
The students also expressed frustration over the library’s policy of not loaning books to students and the absence of past question papers, a crucial resource for exam preparation.
“I have never been moved to use the library,” one student confessed.
However, amidst the criticisms, there is a glimmer of hope. One student expressed optimism about the potential of the library.
The student said: “I look forward to a library that is quiet, with new and updated infrastructure. A place where students can actually go to study.”
