Terrorists have killed Dr. Tiri Gyan David, a lecturer and Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Extension, and Rural Development at the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State.
The terrorists also abducted two of Dr. David’s children.
The attack occurred on Tuesday morning at Dr. David’s residence in Yarima Quarters, Low-Cost Estate, Dutsinma Local Government Area.
According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists invaded the community around 1:30 am with sophisticated weapons, shooting sporadically to scare the residents.
One of the eyewitnesses who craved anonymity revealed that the terrorists gained access into the deceased compound by climbing the fence.
According to the source “Dr Tiri’s two sons were at the parlour at the time of the incident. The elder saw the terrorists entering their compound through the fence and ran to the father’s room to inform him.
“The bandits finally invaded Dr. Tiri’s apartment breaking in through the window in the girls’ room. Meanwhile, while attempting to break in, the girls ran into their mother’s room and together they all hid in her bathroom.”
The source further disclosed that “the bandits immediately took custody of Dr Tiri’s younger son
found in the sitting room along with his elder brother forcing them to cry out.”
The source added that “Dr Tiri was left with no choice but to come out of hiding, appealing to them to carry him along with his sons. The bandits queried why he failed to open the door earlier but he pleaded with them to carry him instead. Finally, they shot him before taking his two sons away.”
However being that it was in the middle of the night, there was no one to rush him to the hospital and the lecturer died before help could arrive.
The spokesman of the Katsina Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq, also confirmed the incident.
“The bandits attacked a compound behind Comprehensive Hospital Dutsinma LGA, Katsina State and attempted to kidnap 14 occupants of the house. They shot and killed one occupant of the house in the process. Our officers responded and rescued 10 of the residents but they made away with four others. Efforts are being intensified to ensure the rescue of the remaining four victims,” ASP Sadiq stated while giving his account of the incident.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Armaya’u Bichi also confirmed the report.
The Vice-Chancellor revealed that the terrorists also invaded the home of one Mr. Adeola and abducted two of his sisters.
According to the VC, the terrorists also seized phones and money from some female staff who reside in the compound.
