Alumna of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), Ayano Ayomide has revealed that the monotechnic helped her to become a courageous individual.

Ayomide, who graduated from NIJ in 2018 disclosed that she was an introvert before gaining admission into the school, however, the experiences acquired in the course of her programme inspired her to be ‘confident and bold’.

According to her, the ‘development’ has contributed to her success story in the journalism space, leading to her employment as Education and Labour Reporter at Leadership Newspaper.

She also worked as general news reporter at Aledeh Media Network and The Lagos Times respectively – and currently serves as the Associate Editor at Quintessence Crafts Alliance.

Recounting her experiences at the school, Ayomide noted that she always looks forward to the students’ week celebration due to the opportunities and excitements it provides.

“My most memorable experiences at NIJ was the students’ week celebration. It was a time for learning, unwinding, and networking. I always looked forward to the events, and it helped me to grow as a journalist,” she said.

Ayomide also mentioned that commuting from home to school daily was one of the challenges she faced considering the unavailability of hostels.

She added: “I juggled part-time work with my HND programme, but with hard work and dedication, I managed to graduate with distinction.”

The journalist emphasized that she remains connected with her classmates through various social media platforms especially WhatsApp as many are now in different parts of the world.

She charged the management of the school to create a community where alumni over the years can come together to share ideas that will enhance the activities of the school – maintaining that it would provide opportunities for mentorship, networking, and connections.

She further stated that she has met with key media players who graduated from NIJ – stressing that the ‘birth’ of the community would be a game-changer.
