Some students of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) have reacted to the return of chunky earrings in the world of fashion.

Once relegated to the fashion archives of the 80’s and 90’s, the accessory has made a bold comeback in recent years upon finding new life on the ears of trendsetters and fashion enthusiasts alike.

Gone are the days of delicate studs and minimalist hoops; chunky earrings are here to demand attention and add flair to any outfit ranging from oversized geometric shapes to colorful resin designs – and they offer a playful yet powerful way to express personal style.

But what exactly has sparked the resurgence of chunky earrings in recent times? Some attribute it to a desire for self-expression and individuality in fashion. In a world dominated by fast fashion and fleeting trends, they provide a means to stand out and make a statement.

Reacting to the resurgence of chunky earrings, final year student at NIJ, Ogunlenu Olalade expressed fondness, stressing that it comes along with comfortability and never go out of style.

National Diploma (ND) 1 student of the monotechnic, Sarah Adeleke also expressed her love for chunky earrings, adding that they help her to stand out in any outfit.

Sarah also disclosed that the earrings complement any look she chooses to wear.

In terms of styling, chunky earrings offer endless possibilities. They can effortlessly elevate a casual jeans-and-tee ensemble or add an unexpected twist to a formal evening gown. The key is to let the earrings take center stage, keeping the rest of the outfit simple to allow them to shine.

Irrespective of the occasion (night out on town, zoom meeting from home or office), they have become a multipurpose accessory – and their ability to possess class and flair into any look makes them a must-have addition to any fashion lover’s collection.

The new dawn of chunky earrings is a testament to the enduring power of the ever-evolving fashion world which entails reinvention. With their bold shapes, vibrant colours, and statement-making presence, they have firmly cemented their place as a staple accessory in modern wardrobes. So why not dare to be bold and let your ears do the talking with a pair of chunky earrings?
