Following the appointment of Dr Adeboye Ola as the new Deputy Provost of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) by the governing council on Monday, February 19, students of the monotechnic have continued to share their thoughts.

The students have expressed satisfaction over the new development, describing Dr Ola as a disciplinarian, hence a step in the right direction.

Commenting on the appointment, a Higher National Diploma (HND) 1 student, Ifeoluwa Opatola said: “We knew this day would come but we didn’t expect it this early.”

The HND 1 class governor noted that Ola’s latest position is well deserved and wished him success. She also expressed confidence stating that NIJ will attain new heights during his tenure.

Another HND 1 student, Blessing Abasifreke said that the news came as a shock as she never saw it coming.

“Dr Boye is someone who is very disciplined and during his tenure a lot of things will change starting from dressing. This will make a lot of students feel very uncomfortable,” Abasifreke said.

She however commended the photography and journalism expert, adding that she does not have any issue with him being the deputy provost.

“As long as I obey the school rules and regulations, there is no reason to be scared of him,” she stated.

Similarly, Stephanie Cocobassey from HND 1 also voiced her opinion saying: “Nothing much to say about it, but his tenure should be favourable in the school and programmes should go smoothly in the institution.”

Olamide Fashoyi, who is also an HND 1 student said he is glad about the development and hoped the students enjoy his time.

According to National Diploma (ND) 2 student, Matilda Omenai, she has had few moments with the new Deputy Provost and looks forward to the changes he will bring.

ND 2 student, Christabel Benson stated that she feels indifferent, but expects the disciplinarian to do a great job.

Before his recent appointment, Dr. Ola was the Head of Department (HOD) of General Studies.
